Walnut Street School |
Details |
The Walnut Street School (also known as the Walnut Street Building or Central School) was at 608 E. Walnut Street in Washington, Indiana. The two story brick school was built in 1897-1898 with an impressive bell tower. The upper floor was used for the high school and the lower floor for the grade school. When the building could no longer accomodate all of the grades, a new high school was constructed in 1912-1913 to the west of the Walnut Street Building and the high school students were transferred to that building. The Walnut Street Building was demolished in 1967 and replaced on the same site by the present Washington High School. |
