Daviess County Museum |
Details |
The Daviess County Museum in Washington, Indiana is operated by the Daviess County Historical Society, Inc. (DCHS) that was established in 1966. The society's mission is to preserve, protect and promote the history of Daviess County, Indiana. Shortly after its organization, DCHS members discussed the need to establish a Daviess County Museum. The Museum's first location was the small Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) room in the basement of the Daviess County Courthouse. In 1969 the Museum moved to a one story frame house at 305 East Walnut Street in Washington. In 1978 the Museum relocated to the former Jefferson School on Donaldson Road in Washington. In 2005 DCHS acquired the historic Masonic Lodge built in 1868 at 212 E. Main Street in Washington where the Museum is now located. |
