August 26, 1969 and August 27, 1969 newspaper articles about the Daviess County Commissioners leasing to the Daviess County Historical Society (DCHS) the former Daviess County Welfare office at 305 E. Walnut Street in Washington to be used as a Museum. The first Daviess County Museum in 1967 was the GAR room in the basement of the Daviess County Courthouse. In 1978 the Museum was relocated to the former Jefferson School on Donaldson Road in Washington. The DCHS acquired the former Masonic Lodge at 212 E. Main Street in Washington in 2005 where the Museum is now located. |
