Sgt. Clauss served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. On January 17, 1943 a U.S. Army cargo plane left Accra, Africa en route to Natal, Brazil with a crew of six men, seven U.S. Army personnel (including Sgt. Clauss) and 13 members of the British Royal Air Force. The plane crashed in the Atlantic before it reached Brazil. Bodies of two men were recovered, but the other men, including Sgt. Clauss, were not found. |
