Description |
Large collection of Graham Cars toys manufactured by Tootsietoys. These diecast models were manufactured in the 1930's. The collection was donated by Thomas Healy. The Graham brothers were born in Washington, Indiana. The Graham Paige automobile was an American automobile manufacturer founded by the three Graham brothers, Joseph B., Robert C., and Ray A., founded in 1927. After a successful glass manufacturing company ( later sold to Libby Owens), the three brothers started to produce kits to convert model T Fords into trucks. That led to the brothers building their own trucks using engines of various manufacturers and the Graham brothers brand. They eventually used Dodge engines. The Grahams started in Evansville Indiana, opened a plant in Detroit in 1922. Dodge eventually purchased the firm in 1925. In 1927 the brothers decided to enter the automobile business. Joseph became president, Robert vice president and Ray secretary. They opened plants in Michigan. The company lasted until 1940 and its assets were sold to Kaiser Fraizer. The Tootsietoy Graham series toys were sold roughly from 1933 to 1939. The line was offered in six body styles, roadster, sedan, towncar, wrecker and van. They were manufactured in many colors and variations. Graham Sedan, 6 wheel, yellow, black running boards.. |
