Description |
CD of the play, "The Blue Hole," performed by the Veale Creek Players at the Veale Creek Theater south of Washington, Indiana on April 4, 2013. The play was written by Roy Wachter and directed by Dean Dorrell. See 2021.FIC.0496.0001 for the program of the play. The play is a fictionalized account of the Blue Hole train disaster west of Washington on March 27, 1913 that claimed the lives of four railroad employees: Theodore Gharst, Reason Jackson, Clifford McLemore, and Daniel L. Shaffer. Extensive flooding of the West Fork of the White River weakened the supports of the Blue Hole trestle and it collapsed when crossed by Engine 401 and its trailing flatcar. The engine, flatcar, and six railroad employees fell into Blue Hole. Only two men, C. Glenn Stevens and Daniel Tucker, survived. |
