Description |
Undated picture postcard (ca. 1900-1910) of a class of elementary students and their teacher at an unidentified school. All of the people in the picture are unidentified except Lela L. Lee, the young girl on the far left of the first row. Lela Lee was a teacher in Washington, Indiana starting in the early 1930s. On the reverse is written "#1128" which is a reference to the Thelma Bingham books at the Daviess County Museum. She wrote this photo was part of a collection donated to the Daviess County Museum by Edker Lee, Ms. Lee's cousin, in April 1985. With the entry of the United States into World War II, Ms. Lee enlisted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army WACs. After the war she returned to Washington and resumed her career in education. She retired in 1968 after over 45 years of teaching. |
