Description |
Six photographs of Ray Leonard Hart (1922-2007) taken while he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from February 1942 to October 1945. There are three copies of the first photo. There are also three copies of the second photo which was taken at Norfolk, Virginia in 1943. The third photo was taken in Hawaii. Ray Hart was the son of William Stewart "Bill" Hart (1899-1990) and Cdv (Leonard) Hart (1902-2005). He graduated in 1941 from Washington High School in Washington, Indiana. While in the Navy, Ray served aboard the battleship U.S.S. York in both Atlantic and Pacific combat campaigns. After the war Ray and his wife, Fay (Wentzell) Hart-Ledbetter (1924-2024) owned and operated Chat and Nibble restaurant and Blue Bird Cafe in Washington. These photos were part of a large collection donated in 2025 to the Daviess County Museum by Cate (Hart) Hyatt, Ray Hart's daughter. |
