Undated picture postcard (ca. 1930-1935) of Lela L. Lee's class at the West End School in Washington, Indiana. The students are named on the reverse. Also on the reverse is written "#1128" which is a reference to the Thelma Bingham books at the Daviess County Museum. She wrote this photo was part of a collection donated to the Daviess County Museum in April 1985 by Edker Lee, Ms. Lee's cousin. Lela L. Lee began teaching at the West End School in the early 1930s. With the entry of the United States into World War II, Ms. Lee enlisted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army WACs. After the war she returned to Washington and resumed her career in education. She retired in 1968 after over 45 years of teaching. |
