An undated photograph (ca. 1941) of the faculty at Jefferson School in Washington, Indiana: (Lt. to Rt.) seated, Myrtle (Eskew) McCormick, Dencil D. Williams, Gladys (Bratcher) Greenwood; standing, Delphia Allen, unknown, Margaret (Wallace) Horton, Jeanette A. Edwards, Nellie Billings, Mae Newton. On the reverse is written "#1070" which is a reference to the Thelma Bingham books at the Daviess County Museum. She wrote this photo was part of a large collection donated in May 1984 to the Museum by Phillip Eskew, the brother of Myrtle (Eskew) McCormick. The two story, red brick Jefferson School is on Donaldson Road. The school was built in 1923 and was used for grades 1 to 8 until 1978. The Daviess County Museum was housed in the former school from 1978 to 2005. Jefferson School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 20, 1997. |
