Description |
8 x 10 black and white photograph taken in 1948 at the Chicago Railroad Fair of 1830 steam locomotive called "De Witt Clinton" with wood tender and coach cars attached. This was fourth steam locomotive built in the United States and the first to operate in the state of New York. On the reverse is written "#1391" which is a reference to the books prepared by Thelma Bingham, long time curator at the Daviess County Museum, which state this picture was part of a collection of railroad photographs obtained from the Al Peek estate. According to the 1952 Washington City Directory, Albert C. Peek was a conductor for the B & O Railroad Company and he resided at 21 Green Acres in Washington, Indiana with his wife, Lois Peek. Also on the reverse is written, "Chicago R.R. Fair 1948" and "The Famous 'De Witt Clinton' B & O 1830." |
