Description |
An October 1939 picture postcard of seventh grade students at Jefferson School in Washington, Indiana. The names of many of the students are written on the reverse. Also in the picture are three faculty members: Oliver M. McCracken and Myrtle (Eskew) McCormick (standing, third row far left) and Dencil D. Williams (standing, third row far right). On the reverse is written "#1276" which is a reference to the Thelma Bingham books at the Daviess County Museum. She wrote this photo was part of a collection donated to the Museum by Norma (Montgomery) Dickerson. The two story, red brick Jefferson School was located on Donaldson Road. The school was built in 1923 and was used for grades 1 to 8 until 1978. The Daviess County Museum was housed in the former school from 1978 to 2005. Jefferson School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 20, 1997. |
