Description |
Two photographs of Ray Leonard Hart (1922-2007) of Washington, Indiana. There are two copies of the first photo taken February 3, 1942 of Ray Hart, standing on the right, with four unidentified friends. Writing on the back says the five young men were "buddies" who enlisted in the military shortly after graduating from high school during World War II. The second photo of Ray was taken February 23, 1943. Ray Hart was the son of William Stewart "Bill" Hart (1899-1990) and Cdv (Leonard) Hart (1902-2005). He graduated in 1941 from Washington High School. He was in the U.S. Navy from February 1942 to October 1945 and served on the battleship U.S.S. York in both Atlantic and Pacific campaigns. After the war Ray and his wife, Fay (Wentzell) Hart-Ledbetter (1924-2024) owned and operated Chat and Nibble restaurant and Blue Bird Cafe in Washington. These photos were part of a large collection donated in 2025 to the Daviess County Museum by Cate (Hart) Hyatt, Ray & Fay Hart's daughter. |
