Copy of an undated photograph (ca. 1885-1890) of sixteen members of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Flinn Post #503 in Raglesville, Indiana. Written on the front and back is "Grand Army of the Republic." Also written on the reverse is "Raglesville GAR before 1892?" and "1st Row 2nd from right Wm. Wirts Grandfather of Ruby Wirts Bell Clothing Store." The GAR was a fraternal organization for veterans that served in the Union Army, Union Navy or the Marines during the American Civil War. The GAR started in 1866 in Springfield, Illinois. It ended in 1956 with its last member, Albert Woolson (1850-1956) died. |
