An undated photograph (ca. 1929) of Judge Milton S. Hastings sitting on the bench in the Daviess Circuit Court at the Daviess County Courthouse. Behind the Judge's bench is an elaborate wall mural depicting a Hoosier wilderness with a young Abraham Lincoln to the right leaning on an ax. This photo may have been taken in 1929 shortly after the dedication of the new courthouse. The Daviess Circuit courtroom was severely damaged in a 1985 courthouse fire. The courtroom was refurbished but the mural could not be restored. On the reverse of this photo is written "#879" which is a reference to the Thelma Bingham books at the Daviess County Museum. She wrote this photo was part of the "Martha Ward Collection" that was donated to the Museum on September 12, 1980. |
