A black and white photograph (ca. 1917-1918) of a group of nurses, two women in civilian clothes, and others standing on the steps of the Daviess County Courthouse in Washington, Indiana in front of the Civil War Memorial. There is a crowd of people standing next to and behind the nurses. In the lower right of the photo is embossed, "Bourgholtzer Washington, Ind." This is the same photo as 2017.FIC.3502. At the bottom on the photo is written, "Canteen Red Cross -Met troop trains WWI 1917-1918 to serve coffee and donuts." Numbers are written on the photo which correspond with an accompanying paper that identified some of the nurses. On the top of the paper is typed, "George Dyke, Chairman of Chapter." |
