Odon, Indiana is in Madison Township of Daviess County. The town was laid out in 1846 by John Hastings on land owned by Dr. John Townsend. The town was originally called Clarksburg with a post office known as Clark's Prairie. In 1880 the town was renamed Odon. The origin of the name Odon is generally believed to derive from the names of two influential Clarksburg residents: Caleb Odell and Joseph Dunn Laughlin. The town was incorporated June 20, 1885. In 1889 the Chicago, Terre Haute and Southeastern Railroad came to Odon. In the 2010 census, the population of Odon was 1,354. It is the second largest town in Daviess County. |
