Elnora is a town in Elmore Township, Daviess County, Indiana that was incorporated in 1892. The town was platted in 1885 when the Evansville & Indianapolis Railroad was built through the town. Before 1886 the post office in the hamlet was known as "Owl Prairie" and the village was called "Owltown." Owltown was a stop on the Wabash & Erie Canal when the canal operated in Daviess County from 1852 to 1860. On January 1, 1886 the name of the postoffice was changed from Owl Prairie to Elnora. The population of Elnora in 1910 was 962. As of the 2010 census, the population was 640. |
