Mr. Allen was a Civil War veteran having served in Company B of the 27th Indiana Infantry Regiment. He was severly wounded at the Battle of Anietam in September 1862. He was in the hospital recovering for six months. After his hospital release he was assigned to guard duty at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and was present when President Lincoln made his Gettysburg address in November 1963. |
