1945 newspaper article about the 83rd Division of the U.S. Army as it advanced into Germany during World War II. Sgt. Ned B. Smith served as a medic in the 83rd Division. He was one of the five Smith brothers from Washington, Indiana (Ned, Dwight, Russell, Kenneth and Kyle) who served in combat units with the U.S. Army during World War II. They all survived. Their parents were Mr. & Mrs. Barbee and Opha (Browning) Smith who lived at 1014 Robinson Street in Washington. |
