Copy of obituary of Phillip Cruse (1795-1885) who was born in North Carolina and moved to Washington, Indiana where he engaged in merchandise, hardware and hotel businesses. His son, Joseph W. Cruse, after his death at the age of 36, bequeathed real estate in Washington to be sold and the proceeds used in 1868 to construct a brick, two story Masonic Lodge at 212 East Main in Washington. A third floor was added in 1888. In 2005 the Masonic Lodge was sold to the Daviess County Historical Society and now houses the Daviess County Museum. |
