November 15, 1976 newspaper article about a meeting of the Daviess County Historical Society (DCHS) in Washington, Indiana that was celebrating its 10th anniversary. Proposals were adopted for DCHS to attempt to purchase the historic "Beck House" at 103 E. National Highway in Washington built in 1893 for the purpose of using the two story home as a Museum. Also, DCHS had been offered the Baldwin log cabin dental office and the one room Scudder School and needed land on which to move the buildings. Included is a copy of an undated letter (ca. 1976) from DCHS, with attachments, seeking grant funds to purchase the Beck house and to move the Baldwin log cabin and Scudder School. The effort to purchase the Beck House was unsuccessful. In 1978 DCHS rented the former Jefferson School on Donaldson Road in Washington where the Daviess County Museum was located from 1978 to 2005. In 2005 DCHS purchased the former Masonic Lodge at 212 E. Main Street in Washington and moved the Museum to that location. |
