Edith Rose (Duenisch) Wilkins' (1927-2017) oral history given from January 3 to May 23, 2002 and transcribed by L. Rex Myers, Daviess County Historian. Ms. Wilkins was born December 30, 1927 in Mellrichstadt, Germany. She came to the United States in 1948 and married James F. "Jim" Wilkins on September 6, 1948. Edith and Jim met in 1945 when he served with the U.S. Army occupying the western part of Germany after World War II. Ms. Wilkins gives a detailed account of her childhood, growing up in Nazi Germany, her experiences during the war, and her life after she emigrated to America. Mr. & Mrs. Wilkins moved to Washington, Indiana in 1954. |
