Copy of a page from the January-February 1982 edition of "Antique Toy World" with a photo of a metal toy automobile manufactured by Corcoran Manufacturing Co. in Washington, Indiana. Louis A. Corcoran (1889-1945) was the founder and president of the company that from 1926 to 1937 made metal toys known as Cor-Cor Toys (trucks, cars, locomotives, scooters). From 1926 to 1936 production was at a factory on East 21st Street in Washington. The business was a success until the Great Depression caused a significant reduction in sales. Corcoran sold the factory on 21st Street to the Mutual Building Corporation in 1936 and moved his business to the second floor of the Cunningham building on East 3rd and Van Trees Street. His toy manufacturing resumed in February 1937, but a fire destroyed the plant on August 3, 1937. He discontinued making toys and dissolved Corcoran Manufacturing. He started a new business, Corcoran Metal Products Corp., making condensers, coils and radiator units for refrigerators and heating equipment. Cor-Cor Toys have become valuable collector items. |
