April 26, 1886 petition submitted by Cable and Kauffman Co. to the Mayor and Common Council of Washington, Indiana for a permit to "erect a large store building to be of brick ends and frame sides with a good tin roof thereon . . . between the brick store room of George Kauffman on the West and the brick business house of Henry Backes on the East." |
