Scope & Content |
A scanned copy of an announcement published by Hoefling Truck & Tractor, Inc. in the April 3, 1998 Washington Times-Herald newspaper about the relocation of its business to a new facility on the east side of Washington, Indiana. The move was prompted by a May12, 1997 fire that destroyed Hoefling Truck & Tractor's downtown location at 101 S. Meridian Street. The business originated in 1941 as Hoefling/Riggins, a partnership between Lo J. Hoefling (1896-1975) and Cletus Riggins. In 1943 Mr. Hoefling purchased an International Harvester dealership and the business was incorporated as Hoefling Truck and Tractor. From 1944 to 1947 it included an Oldsmobile car dealership. Leo Hoefling's son, Jack Hoefling (1928-2007) and later his grandson, David Hoefling, continued to successfully operate the business. |
