Copy of an undated newspaper article (ca. 1936) about a speech given by Arthur H. Greenwood (1880-1963), U.S. Congressman from Washington, Indiana, to the Kiwanis Club in Washington, about his "junket trip" to Asia in 1935. Mr. Greenwood and his wife, Nettie B. (Small) Greenwood (1883-1956), along with 17 senators, 25 congressmen, the vice president, the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and their wives, visited Japan, China, Hong Kong, and the Philipines. While in the Philipines the group attended the inaugural of President Quezon, the first president of the Philipines. As a Democrat, Mr. Greenwood, a native of Daviess County, Indiana, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1922 and served 16 years. |
