The April 1, 2005 issue and the first newsletter published by the Daviess County Museum in Washington, Indiana. The Museum is operated by the Daviess County Historical Society (DCHS) that was established in 1966. On the front page was a message from Dean Dorrell, the president of DCHS, announcing that DCHS had purchased the historic Masonic Lodge, built in 1868, at 212 E. Main Street in Washington. The Museum's first location was the small Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) room in the basement of the Daviess County Courthouse. The Museum moved in 1969 to a one story, frame house at 305 East Walnut Street in Washington. In 1978 the Museum relocated to the former Jefferson School on Donaldson Road in Washington. |
