December 1, 1937 Juror's Summons from Milton H. Fitzgerald, Sheriff of Daviess County, Indiana, to Edith Bingham, who lived in Veale Township of Daviess County, commanding her to appear at the Daviess County Courthouse on December 6 to serve as a Grand Juror. The summons is glued to a piece of cardboard. On the reverse is a photograph published on the front page of the December 18, 1937 edition of the "Washington Herald" newspaper of the six members of the Daviess County Grand Jury. The caption below the photo identified each of the jurors and noted the three female members, Mrs. Bingham, Abigail Phipps and Nora Keith, were the first women to serve on a grand jury in Daviess County. Written in the upper left corner of both items is "#663" which is a reference to the Thelma Bingham books at the Daviess County Museum. She wrote these items were part of a large collection donated to the Museum by Mrs. Bingham and her husband, Clifford Bingham, who were for 19 years the Curator and Director, respectively, of the Museum. |
