August 25, 1927 edition of The Washington Democrat newspaper (pages 1-2 and 7-8) published in Washington, Indiana. Separate front page stories reported two major fires that occurred in Washington on the morning of August 25. The Daviess County Courthouse built in 1878 was completely destroyed by fire which necessitated the building of a new courthouse in 1929. The other fire occurred in the Temple Court Building on Main Street in Washington. Although there was significant damage to the building and contents, the Temple Court Building was repaired and remains in use today. On page 8 the movie, "After Midnight" starring Norma Shearer, was advertised at the Indiana Theatre. The vaudeville act, "The South Sea Syncapators," was performing at the Liberty Theatre. |
