The volunteers at the Daviess County Museum strive to be as accurate as possible when cataloging the Museum's collection. But sometimes we have limited provenance about artifacts and often cannot identify people in photographs. If you have more information about any item in the Museum's online collection, we encourage you to share that knowledge with us.

Two undated alphabetized lists (ca. 2020) compiled by John S. Arford of men from Daviess County, Indiana who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. One list is 11 pages long. The other list is 53 pages. Mr. Arford notes the Civil War Monument in front of the Daviess County Courthouse says "2312 soldiers of Daviess Co." served during the war. Mr. Arford says his two lists contain 2,135 names. He notes the company and regiment each veteran served in and their service dates. For some veterans Mr. Arford reports their date of birth, death and where they are buried. The names noted in the People Field are a small portion of the 2,135 men compiled by Mr. Arford. See also "A County Goes To War" by Dan Donofrio (2017.FIC.2342 in Library) for Daviess County Civil War veterans listed by the regiment in which they served.
