A January 19, 1876 warrant issued by Peter W. Walter (1841-1910), the Justice of the Peace of Madison Township, Daviess County, Indiana, to arrest William L. Montgomery on the criminal charge of Profaning the Name of God. It was alleged by Rezia Overton (1850-1920) that Mr. Montgomery on January 13, 1876 said: "By God Rezia Overton I will fight when I please." Mr. Montgomery was arrested on January 20 by the Constable, Michael Wallick, and brought to Mr. Walter's court. This document was part of a large collection of Madison Township Justice of the Peace records donated to the Daviess County Museum in 2024 by Janet Bowlin. The records belonged to her late husband, William D. Bowlin. |
