Two copies of a report given by Eleanor Purdue at the November 14, 1976 meeting of the Daviess County Historical Society (DCHS) in Washington, Indiana. The report provides a history of DCHS from the time it was established in 1966 as a not-for-profit corporation during the Indiana Sesquicentennial celebration. The first officers were William Brooks Allen, President; Marietta McKee, Vice-President; Philip Buyher, Secretary; and Rev. Jack Hillhouse, Treasurer. DCHS operates the Daviess County Museum in Washington. The Museum's first location was a small room in the basement of the Daviess County Courthouse. The Museum moved to a one story frame house at 305 East Walnut Street in Washington. In 1978 the Museum relocated to the former Jefferson School on Donaldson Road in Washington. In 2005 DCHS acquired the former Masonic Lodge at 212 E. Main Street in Washington where the Museum is now located. |
