Programs for Sunday services at Aikman Creek Baptist Church, located south of Washington, Indiana, on March 15, 1969, April 17, 1977 (three copies), May 7, 1978, July 2, 1978, and September 30, 1978. The Aikman Creek Baptist Church in Harrison Township of Daviess County, Indiana was organized February 26, 1844. A group of seventeen persons met in a school house in Harrison Township near Aikman Creek. They adopted a constitution, agreed upon a Church Covenant, received the Articles of Faith of Union Association. Elder John Graham was the first pastor of the church, being called on April 20, 1844. A log church was constructed shortly after the organization and the congregation met for the first time in the new building on November 16, 1844. In September 1857 discussion began about construction a new church. A frame church, 35 x 45 feet, was completed by 1860. In May 1891 under the pastorate of W. H. Horrall, the church decided to abandon the frame building and erect a new brick structure. The new brick meeting house was finished and the dedication service was held May 30, 1897. A bell was purchased for the church in 1904. The church was badly damaged in 1971 as a result of a tornado with only the walls left standing. The church was rebuilt in 1971 with a steeple, porch, kitchen, air conditioning and stained glass windows. The church was closed in 2021 and the church and parsonage sold to private individuals. |
