April 9, 1907, February 19, 1908 and February 22, 1908 letters from Congressman John C. Chaney to Nelson Horrall of Washington, Indiana about the military records of James Johnson (1752-1833), a Revolutionary War soldier. Enclosed in Congressman Chaney's February 22 letter was the original of a February 21, 1908 letter from the War Department in Washington, D.C. to Congressman Chaney. Also included in this catalog: Mr. Horrall's March 1, 1908 letter to the Adjutant Generals Office at the War Department seeking James Johnson's military records, the March 4, 1908 response from The War Department, and a April 2, 1907 letter from the Pennsylvania State Library stating it was "impossible to tell from which [Pennsylvania County] your Ancestor came especially as you simply give the name of JAMES JOHNSON." These letters were part of a large collection donated in 2025 to the Daviess County Museum by Kathyrn Snow. Ms. Snow obtained the collection from the estate of Randall "Randy" William Smoot. |
