Two copies of an April 1915 article published in an unidentified newspaper about the burning of the "Old Coleman Fort" on the farn of Emery Lett (1864-1950) in Veale Townsip five miles south of Washington, Indiana. Fort Coleman was one of several log forts or blockhouses built by white settlers in Daviess County, Indiana in the early 19th century for protection against Native Americans/Indians. The article notes some of the people who may have used the fort. On the margin of the copies is typed: "Donated to Daviess County Historical Society by Hamlet Lett June 2nd., '66." Hamlet H. Lett was the son of Emery and Aurilla (Coleman) Lett. |
