A copy of "Ma Sunshine," a narrative poem published in the January 14, 1930 "Washington Democrat" newspaper in Washington, Indiana. It was written by Jennie June (Elmore) Morris Lively (1875-1969) using the pen name "Ma Sunshine." The Ma Sunshine poems were a regular feature in the Washington Democrat from 1929 to 1931 and attracted a loyal following of adults and children. Jennie married William Haynes "Will" Morris (1868-1908) in 1894. They had three children, Joseph Elmore Morris (1897-1974), Consuelo Venus "Connie" (Morris) Greene (1895-1950) and Mabel Harriet (Morris) Pershing (1901-1984). After Will died from tuberculous, Jennie married John Lively in 1918, but they often separated and finally divorced in 1930. To learn more about Jennie see "Mabel Harriet Morris Pershing and Her Family" (2023), a book compiled by Jeanie Unversaw Wiesler with text, photos and extensive genealogy research about the Morris, Pershing, and Greene families in Daviess County, Indiana (2025.0023 in Archives). |
