E-mail dated May 7, 2017 from Laura Beth (last name unknown) with attached transcriptions of "A Couple of Observations by Laura Akers" (circa 1942) and a poem by Laura Akers called "Box Town" (April 27, 1938). The poem chronicles some of the people and businesses of the west side of Washington, Indiana, the poorer section of the city, which was commonly called Box Town. Laura Akers was the mother of Joseph L. Akers and Wirt Akers both of whom served in the U.S. military during World War II. |
