Scope & Content |
Three copies of an undated report prepared by Alva C. "Bud" Spillman from Washington, Indiana, "Abbreviated History of the O & M Railway and the B & O Railroad" (ca. 1965-1970) about the Ohio & Mississippi and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad companies that played such an important role in the development of Washington and Daviess County. Several generations of Mr. Spillman's family, including Mr. Spillman, worked for either the O & M or the B & O Railroad companies. The Ohio and Mississippi (O & M) Railroad Co. was organized in 1854. It operated a railroad between Cincinnati, Ohio and St. Louis, Missouri that was completed in 1857 and passed through Washington. The O & M went insolvent in 1867 and was reorganized as the Ohio & Mississippi Railway Co. In 1893 it merged with the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern Railway Co. In 1899 the O & M was taken over by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Co. |
