"Circus" (File 34) compiled by Donald R. Cosby (1931-2023). It contains copies of several newspaper clippings about circuses that came to Washington, Indiana. There is a copy of an internet report about William C. Coup (1836-1895), born in Mt. Pleasant, Martin County, Indiana, who partnered with P.T. Barnum to create "The Greatest Show on Earth" that traveled on railcars across the country. Included is an internet report indicating Coup's circus came to Washington on October 22, 1879. This file is in a four drawer, metal filing cabinet that has 153 research files compiled by Mr. Cosby who was Daviess County Historian from 2016 to 2022. See 2023.0046 for an index of his files. Mr. Cosby wrote three books: "Revisiting The Past" (2012), "Legends, Legacy and Folklore" (2015) and "My Scrap Book" (2018). His writings and research are now stored in the Research Room (Rm 303) of the Daviess County Museum where Mr. Cosby had an office.
