Annie V. Parsons v. Louis B. Parsons divorce petition, Daviess Circuit Court, Cause No. 9094, January Term, 1896. Mr. & Mrs. Parsons were married in February 1892. Mrs. Kelly claimed that shortly after their marriage Mr. Parsons "became dissipated, drinking intoxicating liquors to excess." In August 1893 her husband underwent the "Kelly Cure" which cost $130. For a short time he was sober, but he relapsed and she claimed he became "besotted and habitual drunkard." She also claimed she owned property in Cumberland, Maryland that she sold for $8,000, of which $4,000 she gave to her husband to purchase for her McCarty Livery Stable. She claimed she later invested another $2,000 in the livery business to buy additional vehicles and horses. Because of the neglect of her husband, she claimed the value of the business has deteriorated. One child was born of the marriage: Robert Parsons, born March 21, 1893. |
