A four page newspaper promoting the reelection of Homer E. Capehart (1897-1979), from Daviess County, Indiana, to the U.S. Senate during the 1962 election. Capehart had served in the Senate since 1945 and was seeking his fourth term. He was narrowly defeated by Birch Bayh. Publication includes several photos of Mr. Capehart during his political career including one of him making a speech on August 27, 1938 at the "Cornfield Conference" held on his farm in Daviess County that attracted thousands of Republicans and launched his career in politics. See Library 2018.0011.0005. On the last page of the newspaper Senator Capehart touts his rural upbringing and education in Daviess County. The last sentence states, "Today, as a farm owner and United States Senator, Daviess County is still the home of his choice." At the top of the first page is the autograph of Senator Capehart. |
