Scope & Content |
Copy of a newspaper article (ca. 1950) about a proposed city ordinance in Washington, Indiana to ban the burning of saw dust within the city limits. Employees from Hincher Manufacturing Company at 100 N.E. 18th Street in Washington, which manufactured wooden hangers, said the plant might close and they would lose their jobs if the ordinance passed. Mayor Ralph I. Burris and the city council postponed action on the ordinance. Also included is a copy of a letter to the Editor from Eugene C. Hermestroff, president of Hincher Manufacturing, objecting to a recent article in The Washington Herald that suggested his company had adopted a "public be damned attitude." |
