A December 22, 1918 letter from George Fields, stationed with the U.S. Army in France, to his aunt, Mrs. Warren McCann. The armistice ending the war was declared on November 11. He wrote about his combat experience. "I counted myself pretty lucky of getting through this war without a scratch. The Germans did sure kill quite a few of our horses . . . and a few of our men too." This letter may have been published in Odon Journal newspaper. In 2024 John & Sue Myers on behalf of the Odon Journal donated this letter to the Daviess County Museum. |
