Scope & Content |
A 1972 report about the history of Bethany Christian Church in Washington, Indiana. The pamphlet talks about the construction of the first log church in 1830, the congregation and the pastors who travelled by horse., The report notes the exclusion of some parishioners for "gambling and drunkenness" or for "teaching Universal Doctrine." Bethany is the mother church of many Christian Churches in the area. In 1930 Bethany celebrated its 100 year anniversary with a picnic basket dinner. The report notes church maintenance and building projects due to a large increase in members. In 1960 Bethany had over 1800 members along with several choirs, Boy Scouts, Bible Bowl groups, Mission programs, and a strong Youth Ministry. The church supported several missionaries outside the country as well as the Louisville Bible College. As of 1972 Bethany Christian Church has had 26 ministers since its founding in 1830. In 1955 Brother Ben Ray Bean became the minister. |
