An undated letter (ca. 1918) from Corporal Harold McCallian (1891-1970), a soldier in the U.S. Army during World War I from Odon, Indiana. He was stationed in Alabama and writing to "Dear Sir and Bro." He tells them that on September 26, 1918 he was sent to the hospital because of the "flu"(which may have been Spanish Flu). He reports he developed pneumonia, was very sick for 16 days, and nearly died. He writes he is much better and hopes to be released from the hospital soon. This letter may have been published in the Odon Journal newspaper. In 2024 John & Sue Myers on behalf of the Odon Journal donated this letter to the Daviess County Museum. |
