Three Warranty Deeds transferring ownership to Lot 19 in Mattingly's Addition to the City of Washington: Lewis H Creager to Marie Smith, October 10, 1942; Marie Smith to Earl Way, October 16, 1942; Emma & Armond Stewart, Maxine & Raymond Ham, Mary & Wayne Batchelor to Arlie Fox, October 18, 1967. The grantors in the third deed were the daughters and son-in-laws of Earl Way who died intestate on January 21, 1947. Also included is a October 15, 1942 receipt for $150 as "paid in full" from Earl Way to Marie Smith for the "corner lot on Ogdon Street." Also included is a business envelope in which these documents were stored. The return address is for Adeline C. Lehman, an attorney in Washington, Indiana, who prepared the 1967 deed. On the reverse of the deeds is written "#831" which is a reference to the Thelma Bingham books at the Daviess County Museum. She wrote these items were part of the Wayne Batchelor collection donated to the Museum on March 24, 1980. |
