Ms. Keith's report contains the names of the teachers who taught at this school. The first Hawes School was a one room, wood frame building. It was replaced in 1901 with a two story, brick building. The school was named after Aaron Burr Hawes a one-time prominent citizen in Steele Township. He was convicted in the 1891 arson of the Daviess County Courthouse.
