Page One-A from the Second Section of the October 5, 1977 Washington Times-Herald newspaper. One of the articles is about a tour sponsored by the Daviess County Historical Society (DCHS) of sites in Steele and Elmore Townships in Daviess County. The tour included a stop at Capehart Lodge where former Senator Homer Capehart (1897-1979) reminisced about his life and political career. DCHS, established in 1966, operates the Daviess County Museum in Washington, Indiana. The Museum's first location was the small Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) room in the basement of the Daviess County Courthouse. The Museum moved in 1969 to a one story, frame house at 305 East Walnut Street in Washington. In 1978 the Museum relocated to the former Jefferson School on Donaldson Road in Washington. In 2005 DCHS acquired the historic Masonic Lodge built in 1868 at 212 E. Main Street in Washington where the Museum is now located. |
