Summary |
"The Wabash & Erie Canal, Notebook I, Allen and Huntington Counties" about the canal system built in Indiana in the early 19th century. Construction began in 1832 and the first part of the system began operating in 1843. The Wabash & Erie Canal extended from Toledo, Ohio on Lake Erie to Evansville, Indiana and part of the canal ran through Daviess County, Indiana. The canal was finished in 1853 and operated until 1876 when the railroads made the canal system economically unviable. This notebook covers the canal system in Allen and Huntington Counties in northern Indiana. |
